Touching base: A guide to balcony base plates
23rd June 2025

Whether you’re after a space to entertain, a peaceful outdoor retreat, or even an internal mezzanine level, we can design and manufacture a balcony that adds a touch of refinement to your space. Over the years, we’ve created hundreds of balconies in a wide variety of designs. Some come from our curated range of balcony styles, while others are completely unique, crafted as bespoke designs based on the customer’s requirements.
When it comes to designing and manufacturing a balcony, a great place to start is the base plate – the floor of your new space and often the foundation of its design. Below, we explore the different types of balcony plates we offer and how they can help set the foundations for the perfect balcony for your project.
Cast Aluminium Balcony Plates
Our cast aluminium balcony plates all feature a perforated design that allows light to shine through to the space below and lets water drain through (particularly handy given the British weather).
Our cast aluminium balcony plates come in four distinct designs:
Victorian
The Victorian style is a timeless favourite and one of our most popular designs. Its intricate floral appearance adds elegance to any balcony, perfectly matching traditional Victorian styles. This pattern suits both historical homes and maximalist modern spaces that appreciate ornamental detail.

Georgian LCC
Our Georgian LCC range is ideal for properties looking to stay true to the refined symmetry of Georgian-era architecture. With its simple square pattern, it works equally well in traditional and contemporary settings.

In some cases – particularly for listed Georgian properties – planning regulations may require continuity in style when renovating or adding new features. Our Georgian LCC design is a respectful yet stylish solution.
Diamond
Clean, classic, and versatile, our Diamond design offers a simple cross pattern that fits seamlessly into both traditional and modern environments. It’s an ideal choice if you want something effective yet understated, with the same practical benefits of drainage and light.

Modern Art Deco
Inspired by the sleek geometry of the iconic 1920s movement, our Modern Art Deco range offers a bold design with timeless appeal. In fact, 2025 marks the centenary of the 1925 Paris Exposition, a key event that cemented Art Deco as a prominent style, and so what better way to pay homage to one of the most iconic design movements of the 20th century.

Composite Decking
While cast aluminium offers elegance and durability, composite decking is a practical, low maintenance alternative. It’s a cost-effective solution that mimics the look of real wood without the usual upkeep. Our composite decking is weather-resistant, durable, and features textured finishes and grooves for improved slip resistance – making it a safe and stylish choice for any balcony.

Bespoke Designs
Although we offer a wide range of pre-designed balcony base plates, every balcony we produce is customised to the client’s vision. If our standard designs don’t quite fit your taste, our team will guide you to create a completely bespoke design that you will love for years to come.
One example of this is a recent renovation we completed on a 19th Century Regency Townhouse. Designed in collaboration with architect Peter Deane, this bespoke balcony included custom treads, balusters, and base plates, crafted from the architect’s original drawings. After an unpermitted renovation by the previous owner, the homeowner wanted to restore the building’s historical charm while gaining functional outdoor space – and our custom hexagonal design delivered both heritage and practicality in one impressive structure.

If you have a vision for a bespoke balcony, send us your ideas, and we’ll help you bring them to life.
Final Thoughts
Whether you’re drawn to the classic elegance of our cast aluminium plates or the cost effectiveness of composite decking, we can design and manufacture the perfect balcony for your space.
